The Trouble With Arsenal Fans..Is They Think They Are Better Than Spurs

Capture

‘When Gareth Bale opens his legs, it’s a wonderful sight’…OK, so the commentator may not have been top notch but the Spurs lads did enough to see off Arsenal. Just enough.
The drubbing so many Tottenham fans were hoping for didn’t materialise, but the points are on the board and that’s the main thing. After four straight wins we sit sixth in the table, one point behind Liverpool and three points from fourth place. Arsenal are languishing sixth from bottom, five points behind us. We also have a game in hand over everyone in the league except Everton. Happy days. Read the rest of this entry »

What’s Your Team To Face Arsenal?

Arsene-Wenger-water-bottle-Manchester-United-_2354032

It’s nearly upon us. The most eagerly anticipated North London derby for years (for Spurs fans at least), but who should play?
Should we stick with Sandro and Parker in central midfield, or being at home should we go all out attack and play Modric, Van der Vaart and Defoe? Does Defoe’s hatred of Arsenal make him a shoe in, or should Rafa start up front with Adebayor? Is Lennon worth a start at the expense of the Dutchman? With our squad as rich as it is the team no longer picks itself.
Chamberlaine looks dangerous to me, so who could make the difference for each side? What will the score be? And whose fans will be crying into their beer at the end? Read the rest of this entry »

Gio’nly Way Is Up For Dos Santos

giovani-dos-santos1I don’t know about anyone else, but I’ve found the whole Giovani Dos Santos saga at Spurs a bit embarrassing.
Let’s have a look at his CV. He is broadly regarded as Mexico’s best player in an impressive team which boasts Man United’s Javier Hernandez among others, he was nominated for young player of the tournament (Eventually finishing second to Germany’s Thomas Muller) at the 2010 World Cup, he was voted Most Valuable Player at the 2009 Gold Cup, he scored the goal of the tournament at the 2011 Gold Cup, at 22 he has 51 international caps and 11 goals from midfield, he scored a hatrick in his final game for Barcelona before they (reportedly reluctantly) sold him to Spurs, and in his early career he was tagged as ‘the new Ronaldinho’. Yet for some reason, and I should think to the bafflement of the rest of the football world, he hasn’t been deemed good enough to even make the bench most of his time at Tottenham. Rafael Van Der Vaart – A Fantastic Headache

Rafael-Van-Der-Vaart-Tottenham-Hotspur-Champi_2509164‘A good problem to have’ is the old cliché, and seldom is it more fitting than when discussing Spurs’ mercurial Dutchman Rafael Van der Vaart.
Opinion is broadly split among Spurs fans as to where he should play in the team, or whether he should be a starter at all. He is one of those rare players who can make and score a goal all on his own due to his skill, unpredictability and reading of the game, but that also makes it frustratingly difficult to give him a role in the team which he can make his own. Defoe Wants A Hatrick, Lennon Is Back, Injury News – Offside At The Lodge

sptr

It’s a hard life, this blog writing lark. I was at Spurs Lodge today on behalf of The Offside, courtesy of the club’s betting partner Sportingbet, to watch the lads put through their paces on the training ground and also have a quick word with them about the upcoming North London derby this Sunday.
It won’t surprise many to hear that their assumption that training is 80% hard work and 20% pissing around like 10 year olds is pretty accurate. It looked like good fun I’ve gotta say, which it undoubtedly should be. What was surprising though was that the most buoyant and excitable character of the lot seemed to be Emmanuel Adebayor. While fellow newbie Scott Parker was more reserved and serious (he’s kinda like that though I think) Ade looked like he’d been here for years. Everyone seemed to love him and he was clearly a very popular member of the squad. Good to see. Read the rest of this entry »

Dutchman’s popularity in question ahead of Liverpool game

vdvWhat a difference a week makes. A reasonably comfortable win over a good Wolves side, both our strikers scoring in the same game for the first time since the war – imaginatively speaking – and Scott Parker and Luka Modric running the midfield as though they had played together for years. What would be perfect now would be a run of relatively easy games to help boost the confidence, but this season has started like some group of death for us, and its rejuvenated Liverpool up next.
